A deadly year for butterflies – take part in Big Butterfly Count

2016 seems to be a bad year for butterflies, with a warm winter, cool spring and a sunless summer. I’ve certainly seen fewer in my garden than I remember from last year. And this impacts on other species too, such as Blue Tits that feed caterpillars to their young  – one chick can eat up to 100 in a day.

The Big Butterfly Count is a really important annual survey to assess just how things are for our butterfly species – it takes just 15 mins of your time to record the species you see in your garden or local park. The survey deadline is the end of August.
