Seen or heard any Tawny owls and House sparrows?

Tawny owls

Now is a good time of year for hearing Tawny owls, with dusk so early. If you hear any please let me know the date, time and location.

There was a longstanding population of house sparrows in shrubs on the corner of Burford Road and Burford Ave. With the sewage system works that United Utilities have had to carry out, this habitat has been destroyed and the sparrows presumably have moved elsewhere.

I’d like to know where they have gone!

House sparrows are Biodiversity Action Plan species. An article in the Guardian about the State of the UK’s Birds 2012 report confirms that House Sparrows are in serious decline – we are losing an average of 50 per hour.

If you see any, please let me know the date and precise location.
