Small mammal survey results – Alex Park

Last night we put put out 22 Longworth traps in the north-west section of Alexandra Park with lots of hay and food and wrapped them in bubble wrap to keep them warm.

This morning we checked the traps and found 8 wood mice: 3 females and 3 males. One got away before we could check, and the other we weren’t sure about.

Two of the traps had 2 mice in them – very unusual!

We also checked our hedgehog tunnels again. All the tunnels have had hedgehogs passing through. There are some other tracks we’re still trying to identify – might be stoat or even mink.

hedgehog tracks and other tbc - stoat, mink?

We’ll let you know when we find out!

Thanks to the Lancs & Gtr Manchester Mammal Group and all who helped out and turned up early on a Saturday morning without time for breakfast.

  1. Great work – well done! Lets hope the councils plans for “improving” Alex Park dont involve
    destroying its marvellous biodiversity!
